Port of Chancay, an example of expansion in Peru, was inaugurated by Cosco Shipping at the end of last year, 70 kilometers from the capital, Lima (Disclosure) Peru is preparing to host key players in global maritime trade as the venue for the AAPA Latam 2025 Congress, which will take place from next Tuesday through Friday. This is the flagship event of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), which, in partnership with the Autoridad Portuaria Nacional (APN), will bring together more than 600 international business leaders, government authorities, and executives from the world's leading ports and maritime transport companies. The congress will focus on the future of the continent’s port and logistics sector. The meeting in Lima comes at a strategic moment for global trade. Peru, increasingly recognized as a logistics and port hub on the South Pacific coast of South America, is positioning itself on the global stage as a reference point in transformation, sustainability, and innovation in port infrastructure. AAPA Latam 2025 will serve as a platform for major industry discussions, covering topics such as port investment, energy transition, resilient infrastructure development, and digital transformation. The scale of the event will also highlight the leadership achieved by Peru’s main port terminals, now key players in the sector's transformation across Latin America. Industry leaders agree that this represents a historic opportunity to showcase to the world the strategic capacity and potential of Peru’s port system. “It is an honor to host this important event, which reaffirms the country — along with its ports and logistics system — as a valuable reference. It will allow the world to see up close our capabilities and vision as a regional logistics hub”, said César Rojas Álvaro, General Manager of Puerto de Paracas. Mauricio Núñez del Prado Eguiluz, General Manager of Terminal Internacional del Sur (Tisur), added that the congress will bring together suppliers, clients, and competitors to exchange ideas and opportunities for the sector. For his part, Carlos Arias de Molina, CEO of APM Terminals Callao, emphasized that the congress “will allow us to demonstrate to the world our commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, generating real opportunities for cooperation.” Finally, Gonzalo Ríos Polastri, Deputy General Manager of Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Peru, noted that there is “a motivational and reflective factor, and an excellent opportunity to review infrastructure projections, equipment, and port interaction with surrounding communities.” Grupo Tribuna supports the event. Peruvians open to investment The choice of Peru as host for AAPA Latam 2025 is no coincidence, but the result of a decade of reforms and strategic investments. A prime example is Puerto de Paracas, awarded the Green Port Award System (GPAS) by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec). The terminal has invested over USD 240 million in infrastructure. An additional investment package of USD 30 million has been announced. Euroandinos Port Terminals, the leading agricultural export port in Peru and responsible for over 40% of all refrigerated cargo exported in 2024, plans to surpass USD 100 million in investments by 2029, aiming to respond to the growing demands of Northern Peru. In the South, the concessionaire of the Puerto de Matarani Terminal, Tisur, has executed 12 public works projects in the Islay province under the Works for Taxes mechanism, investing 40 million soles over the past five years. These projects have helped close gaps in sectors such as health, education, sanitation, and transportation. Similarly, DP World, which handles approximately 60% of the volume at Puerto del Callao and channels 90% of domestic container trade, exported USD 2.861 billion in mining products and USD 1.575 billion in fishery products in 2024 alone. APM Terminals is advancing with the inauguration of Phase 3A, a new milestone in the modernization of the North Multipurpose Terminal. In addition, the Port of Chancay represents the immediate future of transoceanic trade.
