WS Halcyon is a class 2312 tugboat, measuring 23 meters in length and 12 meters in beam (Wilson Sons/Divulgação) Tugboat operator Wilson Sons delivered on Thursday (29) the tugboat WS Halcyon, the first of a new series of three high-powered vessels built at the company’s shipyard in Guarujá. The launching ceremony took place in Rio de Janeiro. The WS Halcyon belongs to the 2312 class (23 meters in length and 12 meters in beam) and has a bollard pull of 70 tonnes, enabling it to assist the largest vessels in the world during berthing and unberthing maneuvers at the country’s main ports. The tugboat is also equipped with a firefighting system with a capacity of 2.4 million liters of water per hour. Wilson Sons CEO Arnaldo Calbucci highlights that the new vessels are part of the company’s fleet renewal strategy, which comprises more than 80 tugboats, as well as the modernization of its operations. “With the christening of WS Halcyon and the new tugboat construction cycle, we reaffirm our commitment to excellence in port operations, with a focus on safety, efficiency and sustainability,” says Calbucci. The other two class 2312 tugboats are still under construction at the Wilson Sons shipyard and are scheduled for delivery later this year. According to Márcio Castro, executive director of the Tugboat unit, the investment strengthens the company’s role in the national logistics chain. “Our focus is to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operations, directly contributing to the flow of foreign trade and to the development of Brazilian port infrastructure,” he emphasizes. With the new series, Wilson Sons will reach the milestone of 155 vessels built at its shipyard, which has more than 80 years of history.
