They depart daily from terminals in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and Tocantins toward the Port of Santos (Disclosure) Rumo has started operating 135-car trains as part of its capacity expansion commitments for the Malha Paulista network. Previously operating with 120 cars, the trains are now running with the new configurations on the two main railway corridors serving Brazilian agribusiness. They depart daily from terminals in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and Tocantins toward the Port of Santos. The 135-car trains were introduced in the first quarter of this year, although the capacity expansion projects began in 2021, when the company started operating with 120-car trains. The increase to 135 cars has resulted in an average capacity gain of 1,200 net tonnes per train, a reduction of one hour in transit time (from terminal to destination), and improved energy efficiency — replacing up to 530 trucks per day on highways, totaling around 6,000 per month. In February alone, approximately 3 million tonnes of grain were shipped to the Port of Santos. The concessionaire invested approximately R\$ 350 million to enable the new operating model. This included expanding marshalling yards and infrastructure work for the train configurations. Rumo also conducted a study on force and traction, installing sensors on couplings to better understand the technical and operational challenges of the new locomotives.
