Port of Chancay, in Peru, is the destination of the corridor linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, starting from Bahia (Cosco Shipping/ Disclosure) The Ministry of Transport, through Infra S.A., signed on Monday (7) an agreement with the world’s largest state-owned railway company, China State Railway. The partnership aims to bring to fruition the bi-oceanic railway corridor, connecting Brazil (from Bahia) to the Port of Chancay, in Peru, which is expected to reduce both export time and costs to China. The agreement provides for joint studies to assess the feasibility of a new bi-oceanic railway corridor to the Pacific Ocean, via the Port of Chancay. The proposal aims to reposition the country in international trade, delivering logistical, economic, and environmental benefits. The signing of the memorandum is the result of a process initiated in April, when a Chinese delegation visited Brazil and toured strategic projects such as the Center-West Integration Railway (Fico) and the East-West Integration Railway (Fiol). In May, during an official mission to China, the Federal Government held meetings with Chinese authorities, deepening the technical and institutional dialogue that led to the formalization of the partnership. Since then, teams from both countries have been conducting analyses of Brazilian logistics, focusing on the outflow of agricultural and mineral production from the Center-West to the ports of the Northern Arc and Southeast. The Fico-Fiol railway axis, whose auction is scheduled for next year, is the foundation of the corridor under study. The project also considers integration with other modes of transport, such as highways and waterways. The objective is to establish an integrated, sustainable logistics network connected to the world’s main trade corridors.
