In July, the international Porto & Mar mission to South Korea, organized by Grupo Tribuna, visited Hyundai’s factory in the Asian country (Rodrigo Nardelli / TV Tribuna) Bringing the Port to the industry by discussing current topics that contribute to the development of both sectors is the goal of the Porto-Indústria Summit 2024, which will be held on Tuesday (20) at Hyundai’s factory in Piracicaba, São Paulo. “Rather than hosting a port-related event in Baixada Santista, we see the importance of bringing the port to the client. The industry is a direct client of the port, and with this perspective, we decided to bring the port sector to the industrial region”, explains Maxwell Rodrigues, port affairs consultant at Grupo Tribuna, who will also mediate the event. Maxwell praised Hyundai’s partnership in this initiative. “We can consider this as the true relationship between the two sectors. There's no point in holding an event called Porto-Indústria solely for port people. This is Grupo Tribuna’s commitment to fostering high-quality discussions”, he adds. In June, the International Porto & Mar Brasil - South Korea 2024 mission, organized by Grupo Tribuna, visited South Korea with a delegation of approximately 50 people. Among other places, the delegation visited Hyundai’s factory in the Asian country. The current aim is to disseminate everything learned during the trip to Korea. “Due to the great interest of the delegation in this visit, we decided to hold the Summit in Piracicaba, reversing the order and bringing the Port into the industry”, highlights Demetrio Amono, Commercial Director at Grupo Tribuna. “We are always looking to bring disruptive experiences to our business partners. There’s no better way to make this Porto-Indústria connection than by traveling up the Serra to experience and understand the demands of an industry and its entire supply chain”, he adds. Sustainability and added value to be highlighted at the event The focus of the Summit Porto-Indústria 2024 will be on sustainability and how the industry can add value to cargo, notes Maxwell Rodrigues. “We are a port that mainly exports commodities (primarily agricultural goods), but this does not contribute to job creation in the region, for instance. Brazil has a lot of clean energy resources, and we can help the planet by industrializing part of the process here, with sustainable industries instead of those relying on fossil fuels”. Maxwell points out that due to Brazilian legislation labor costs are higher in Brazil compared to other countries. Therefore, other avenues need to be explored. “We can boost nearby industry in a sustainable manner. This is something Brazil can uniquely offer as a competitive advantage”, he summarizes. Lectures The first lecture, starting at 3:00 PM, will be "Clean Energy - Driving Force for Ports and Industry". One of the speakers will be Vitor Brasil Paixão da Costa, Coordinator of Sectoral Decarbonization Policies and Climate Change at the Ministry of Ports and Airports. “This topic is crucial for the future of our ports and industries. Adopting renewable energy sources and sustainable practices not only improves sector efficiency and competitiveness but also positions Brazil as a global leader in the pursuit of more sustainable economic development. Discussing these topics at such a strategic event allows us to advance the implementation of concrete solutions that will benefit the entire production chain”, he comments. At 3:50 PM, the second lecture will be "Technologies and Challenges Converging in the Port-Industry Relationship." Ricardo Pupo Larguesa, Director at T2S, will be among the speakers and will recall his observations in South Korea, specifically at Hyundai. “We saw there, almost in a didactic manner, a clear application of the port-industry relationship, which is Hyundai’s factory, where the port and the factory essentially share the same space. Thus, cars go directly from the factory to the ship. Of course, in South Korea, unlike Brazil, there is a strong need for this integration because their domestic market is very small. In other words, all industrial development must rely on globalization and export. In Brazil, we have a very large domestic market”, he analyzes. Starting at 4:40 PM, the third lecture will be "Free Trade Zones (ZPE) - Producing, Industrializing, and Exporting." The speakers will be Elias Júnior, Secretary of Port Affairs and Employment of Santos, and consultant Luis Claudio Montenegro. “Free Trade Zones (ZPE) seem to be the solution for Brazilian reindustrialization in a competitive and sustainable manner”, defines Montenegro. Marcel Vilchez, Commercial Director at Bandeirantes Deicmar, will be among the debaters. “When we talk about port-industry, the port is secondary. The main asset in this business is the industry. In other words, when you start developing a port-industry, it means your industrialization process is successful or at least on the path to success”, he says.
