BTP plans investment in terminal at the Port of Santos (Disclosure/ BTP) Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP), in Santos, completed the modernization of 45 maritime fenders earlier this month. The company states that this marks the completion of the first project within the investment package agreed upon with the Federal Government as part of a 20 year extension of the concession at the Port. BTP will invest approximately R\$ 2 billion in the coming years to increase the terminal's capacity by 40%. According to BTP’s Operations Director, Ricardo Trotti, this is the first of several planned upgrades aimed at enhancing the terminal’s competitiveness. “We have been making comprehensive progress in preparing for the increase in operational capacity. In addition to the modernization of the fenders at the dock, we will also be acquiring four new and modern ship-to-shore cranes, with two of them expected to arrive this year”, he says. With the installation of the new fenders, BTP now has infrastructure in place for all berths to accommodate New Panamax-class vessels. These giant ships measure 366 meters in length and have an average capacity to carry between 13,000 and 15,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). The BTP terminal features 1,108 meters of quay and three berths with a depth of up to 15 meters. Maritime fenders are essential components for the safety of people and port operations. They function to cushion the impact caused by a ship during docking and undocking, contributing to the structural preservation of both vessels and terminals.
