Port of Trieste is of great interest due to its important rail connections throughout Europe (APS/Disclosure) The legal superintendent of Autoridade Portuária de Santos (APS), Marcelo Zovico, has initiated discussions with the Port of Trieste, Italy, to identify maritime trade opportunities and increase cargo flows between the two markets. The representative of the Port of Santos was in Trieste to participate in the Adria Shipping Summit, held in the city on the 1st and 2nd. The superintendent’s initiative follows the agreement signed between Santos and the Port of Genoa in 2025, aimed at identifying commercial development opportunities. For Brazil’s foreign trade, the Port of Trieste is of great interest due to its important rail connections throughout Europe, which could open up opportunities to access new markets, APS explains. “Trieste’s location is interesting; it serves as a strategic hub, especially for the European market”, Zovico said. He stressed that the discussions are still at an early stage, with no agreement or direct maritime service having been announced. “We still need to build direct commercial relationships between Santos and Trieste. But the first step has been taken. The visit seeks to pave the way for this rapprochement”, Zovico emphasized, noting that the two ports face common challenges, such as the expansion of operations and environmental issues.
