The collegiate board of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) unanimously approved this Friday (24) the pre-operation of the São Paulo Liquefied Natural Gas Regasification Terminal (TRSP) at the Port of Santos. It was an authorization with reservations. The operating area of the TRSP is close to Alemoa, outside the so-called Organized Port. The unit belongs to Compass, a Cosan group company. The terminal has a licensed nominal regasification capacity of 14 million cubic meters (m³) per day, storage of 150,000 m³, and an approximate investment of R\$ 670 millions. Reservation According to the ANP, the project is "umbilically linked to the Subida da Serra gas pipeline", whose controversial decision regarding the nature of the operation - whether transportation or transmission - is still pending at the agency. For this reason, the LNG produced at the TRSP cannot use the Subida da Serra gas pipeline until the decision of the pipeline's purpose is made. "There are two projects umbilically interconnected, the TRSP terminal and the Subida da Serra gas pipeline, and my recommendation is to emphasize that this decision is not necessarily indicating what will result from the Subida da Serra process outcome", said director Symone Araújo, voting in line with the director Patrícia Baran. The companyContacted, Compass responded through the Edge company, which manages the TRSP. In a statement, Edge emphasizes that the ANP's authorization "corroborates that the LNG terminal complies with global engineering, operation and safety standards and meets all technical requirements required by current regulations to carry out its activities". According to Edge's statement, the TRSP is an important investment in national infrastructure, with entirely private resources, and an investment of approximately R\$ 1 billion."It is strategic for the energy security of Baixada Santista, the state of São Paulo and Brazil, promoting a safe and efficient transition to a more sustainable energy matrix". The company adds that this first LNG terminal in the state also contributes to the opening of the Brazilian gas market, being an alternative for diversifying supply that connects the Southeast region, the most industrialized in the country, to the global supply of natural gas."The TRSP has been operating since early April with all licenses and authorizations required by current legislation".
