City Hall opposes the installation of a logistics condominium on Ilha do Tatu, next to the Mário Covas Viaduct (Alexsander Ferraz/AT) The Santos Port Authority (APS) and the Joint Parliamentary Front of National Ports, chaired by federal deputy Rosana Valle (PL), will hold a public hearing on the future logistics condominiums of the Port of Santos on the 26th at 5:00 PM. The meeting will take place in the APS auditorium, located at Avenida Conselheiro Rodrigues Alves, s/nº, in Macuco, Santos. Last week, APS announced a plan to install logistics condominiums in four cities of the Baixada Santista: Santos, Guarujá, São Vicente, and Cubatão. The initiative aims to generate 2,800 truck parking spaces in regulatory yards, covering a total combined area of 719,000 square meters (m²) in the region. The plan includes regulatory yards on Ilha do Tatu, in Cubatão, in a 420,000 m² area with 1,020 parking spaces; in Ponta da Praia, Santos, in a 233,000 m² space with an estimated capacity of 600 spaces; in Conceiçãozinha, Guarujá, on a 186,000 m² plot with at least 600 spaces; and in São Vicente, in a 180,000 m² area still under study, with an estimated 600 spaces. In a statement, APS informed that the hearing will discuss “the creation of logistics yards within the current and future expanded perimeter of the Port of Santos” and that proposals may be presented during the event. According to the statement, the Parliamentary Front aims to “plan the future of the Port of Santos” and ensure that municipalities, the State, and the Federal Government “discuss bottlenecks and efforts to prevent a collapse in urban mobility in the region.” Ilha do Tatu The construction of a logistics condominium on Ilha do Tatu, located next to the Mário Covas Viaduct at the intersection of the Anchieta and Imigrantes highways, is opposed by the mayor of Cubatão, César Nascimento (PSD). He argues that the high volume of truck traffic in the area will impact the daily lives of 40,000 residents in surrounding neighborhoods. Upon learning about the hearing from the press, the mayor defends the meeting to be held in Cubatão, “with residents, authorities, and organized civil society. Anything else would only reinforce the alleged disregard of the Port Authority for our city.” Nascimento has been awaiting a meeting with APS President Anderson Pomini since January 31 to discuss the impacts of the Ilha do Tatu yard. In response, the port administration stated that “APS’s initiative to meet with the Cubatão City Hall remains in place and will be scheduled after President Pomini’s return from a business trip to Europe.” The project, which already has a signed contract, includes 1,020 truck parking spaces in a total area of 420,000 m² (Reproduction) Land exchange proposal Last Wednesday, the mayor proposed a land exchange to the Federal Government. During a meeting in Brasília with Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), he offered a 1-million-square-meter area in the Industrial Hub, with capacity for 1,000 truck parking spaces, as an alternative to Ilha do Tatu. The area proposed by the city government is in the Sítio dos Areais region, within the Industrial Hub, and located along the Cônego Domênico Rangoni Highway. Addressing Alckmin, the mayor stated that he is not opposed to the development of the port and the region but emphasized that Cubatão cannot bear the burden of progress alone. César Nascimento reiterated that all municipalities must be heard in the truck yard installation process. “Each city has its own particularities. It is only fair that the project be initially discussed in each municipality.”
