Huawei’s corporate headquarters in Shanghai features artificial lakes, buildings inspired by different architectural styles, and its own transportation system (Alexandre Lopes/AT) If there was one visit capable of summarizing everything that the Missão Porto & Mar 2026 has encountered in China so far, it took place this Friday (29) in Shanghai. The Brazilian delegation led by Grupo Tribuna visited Huawei’s campus, a structure so vast that it defies any conventional comparison. More than a corporate headquarters, the complex resembles a city built for the future. Artificial lakes, bridges, gardens, buildings inspired by various European architectural styles, and a dedicated rail transportation system for employees transform the site into an environment reminiscent of settings previously seen only in science fiction films. In some areas, the landscape evokes historic European cities. In others, it feels like being inside an innovation center designed for the decades ahead. The scale of the complex impressed the business leaders, executives, and public officials participating in the mission. With more than 20,000 employees working at this campus alone, Huawei has created an environment designed not only to develop technology, but also to attract talent, foster creativity, and strengthen international business relationships. The experience also helped challenge a perception that remains common outside China. Although globally recognized for its smartphones, smartwatches, and telecommunications equipment, Huawei has transformed itself in recent years into a global technology powerhouse. Today, the company operates in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, connectivity, data centers, digital energy, industrial automation, and intelligent infrastructure. Founded in 1987, the company operates in more than 170 countries and serves billions of people through its technological solutions. Huawei invests tens of billions of dollars annually in research and development and is considered one of the organizations that invests most heavily in innovation worldwide. With a futuristic appearance, some Huawei facilities impressed the Brazilian delegation; the objective is to attract new talent to the company (Alexandre Lopes/AT) Port transformation After touring part of the campus, the delegation attended a meeting with company executives, who presented Huawei’s history and the projects it has developed for different sectors of the economy. Among the topics discussed, the company’s work in the digital transformation of ports drew particular attention. Huawei has been expanding investments in solutions focused on port automation, artificial intelligence, private 5G networks, operational monitoring, and real-time data integration. In China and in international projects, Huawei has been increasing its participation in smart port digital transformation initiatives, enabling greater logistics efficiency, lower operating costs, and enhanced operational safety. These solutions range from automated equipment control to systems capable of integrating information from ships, terminals, trucks, and logistics centers into a single digital platform. The convergence of technology and port infrastructure was one of the topics that generated the greatest interest among mission participants, especially given the modernization challenges faced by ports around the world. The company’s campus even includes artificial lakes designed to provide relaxation for its 20,000 employees (Alexandre Lopes/AT) Important reflections For Maxwell Rodrigues, port affairs consultant for Grupo Tribuna, the experience prompted reflections that extend beyond technology. “When we look at the business environment in Brazil, we often associate everything solely with costs and development. Here, they showed genuine concern for our delegation. Two people came from Brazil specifically to welcome us. This is business development at its core.” According to him, the experience also highlights important cultural differences in the way business relationships are built. “We often want new clients, but we do not want to invest in our clients. After making a sale, we frequently forget about them. That mindset needs to change. Huawei demonstrates a strong commitment to relationships, customer experience, and trust-building.” Members of the Missão Internacional Porto & Mar were welcomed by Huawei executives (Alexandre Lopes/AT) Maxwell also highlighted the strategic care reflected in the environment created by the company itself. “When we arrive at a campus like this, it feels as though we are in the United States. That did not happen by chance. There is a clear strategy to bring cultures closer together and make the environment more familiar to people from all over the world.” Throughout the mission, the Brazilian delegation visited automated ports, artificial intelligence companies, smart factories, and autonomous mobility systems. At Huawei, however, the impact was different. More than simply showcasing technologies, the company demonstrated how innovation, business, relationship-building, and long-term vision can be integrated into a single project. It was precisely this combination that made the visit one of the most memorable experiences of the Missão Internacional Porto & Mar 2026 so far.
