Avançam discussões sobre combustíveis sustentáveis para abastecer os terminais portuários e navios (Silvio Luiz/AT) The Federal Government has officially established the Permanent Technical Committee on the Fuel of the Future (CTP-CF) through a publication in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) this Thursday (19). The Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) is part of the Committee, aiming to contribute to discussions on regulations for the fuel of the future. The creation of the group was formalized through a directive issued by the National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE) and signed by the Ministry of Mines and Energy. Among the actions to be discussed, the Committee will address, for example, the definition of Carbon Intensity values (ICE) for energy sources and the regulation of the participation of liquid or gaseous fuels, as well as electricity, to meet the goals of the National Green Mobility and Innovation Program (Mover). The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, emphasized the importance of discussing and proposing solutions focused on environmental preservation, using new technologies to optimize the use of sustainable energy sources. “The participation of the Ministry of Ports and Airports is fundamental to the development of the fuel of the future. We are at a crucial moment where it is necessary to rethink the use of natural resources in fuel production to supply port and airport terminals. We need solutions that minimize environmental impacts.” Among the topics to be regulated by the Committee are the definition of Carbon Intensity values (ICE) for energy sources and the participation of liquid or gaseous fuels and electricity to assess compliance with the goals of the Mover program. The Committee will also address the creation of decarbonization mandates, including the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and biomethane, as well as volume participation targets for green diesel compared to diesel sold to end consumers. Additionally, the Committee will oversee testing of the E35 blend (35% anhydrous ethanol mixed with gasoline) and B25 blend (25% biodiesel mixed with fossil diesel). About the Committee The Committee was created to ensure agility, transparency, and legitimacy in actions necessary for the regulation of provisions outlined in the Fuel of the Future Law (Law 14,993/24), signed into law by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in October.
