Chinese companies interested in auctions at the Port of Santos

Chinese companies that held meetings with the Federal Government this week in China will assess possible participation in future tenders for the lease of the Santos 10 Container Terminal (Tecon Santos 10) and the concession of the Port of Santos’ waterway access channel. The information was provided by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor).

Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, began an official mission to China and Singapore last Monday, which will continue through tomorrow. “The objective is to attract foreign investors to the various infrastructure projects currently underway and to those that will be launched later this year by the Ministry”, MPor said in a statement.

In China, the visit began on Monday with a series of meetings with Chinese companies and investors to present infrastructure projects under development in Brazil and expand international cooperation in the port, airport and waterway sectors.

In Beijing, the meetings included representatives of companies such as China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), China Merchants Port Holdings and Cofco Group.

In Shanghai, yesterday, Tomé Franca concluded the Chinese leg of the mission with a meeting with representatives of Cosco Shipping, one of the world’s leading maritime transport and port logistics companies. The company had previously presented MPor with a project to develop a railway network at the Port of Santos, integrated with the existing infrastructure.

Today, in Singapore, the minister will sign a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor with Brazil. The objective is to cooperate in promoting the decarbonization and digitalization of maritime transport.
