Minister Silvio Costa Filho and the Mayor of Le Havre, Edouard Philippe: increased cooperation between the two countries (Jonilton Lima/MPor/Disclosure) The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, met this Monday (10) with representatives of the French government and signed a cooperation agreement between the two countries. On the occasion, topics related to sustainability and best practices in port management were also discussed. Brazil and France maintain a strategic cooperation relationship in the port sector, based on knowledge exchange, investments, and institutional partnerships. According to Costa Filho, the number of French nationals interested in coming to Brazil is increasing. “We are interested in expanding the Brazil-France port agenda. Today, major French investors are coming to invest in Brazil’s port sector, such as CMA CGM, which recently carried out a major operation in São Paulo, with investments amounting to 2.5 billion euros.” The minister took the opportunity to mention the process for the country's first waterway concession, on the Paraguay River. This initiative is expected to significantly increase cargo movement, reaching between 25 and 30 million tons annually by 2030. Sustainability The meeting also addressed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in management, innovation, and sustainability experiences. The Port of Le Havre is a benchmark in logistical efficiency and advanced environmental practices, serving as a model for initiatives aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and modernization of Brazilian ports. On the occasion, the Mayor of Le Havre, Edouard Philippe, emphasized France’s strong interest in Brazil. “I am here to better understand Brazil’s political projects so that we can become greater partners and see how we can establish closer bilateral relations”, said the French mayor, who is also the president of the International Association of Cities and Ports (AIVP). Philippe also highlighted the importance of considering sustainability in ports and reiterated the need for harmony between urban centers and anchorages. Regarding this matter, the minister highlighted important ongoing projects at the Ministry of Ports and Airports, such as the decarbonization policy in the transport sector. According to Costa Filho, the partnership with France can contribute to improving port infrastructure in Brazil.
