APM Terminals Suape announced the purchase of 28 equipment units for terminal operation, all electrified, featuring cutting-edge technology, as well as high levels of efficiency and safety. This is another measure by APM Terminals aimed to accelerate the adoption of electric container handling equipment and contributing to decarbonizing operations. The land where the port terminal will be implemented, located in the Governor Eraldo Gueiros Industrial Port Complex (Suape), Pernambuco, has been under construction since February, and the terminal is expected to start operations in the second half of 2026. "APM Terminals Suape is investing over R\$ 241 millions in modern equipment to consolidate the project in Pernambuco, which will be the first 100% electrified terminal in Latin America. This is another step that reinforces APM Terminals' commitment to lead the modernization of the port sector in Brazil", says Aristides Russi Júnior, managing director of APM Terminals Suape. The APM Terminals Suape project is fully planned to meet the needs of customers, with pioneering initiatives in port sustainability. Of the 28 equipment units acquired, two are STS (ship-to-shore) cranes, remotely operated models, the largest and most modern available in the market, in addition to OCR (Optical Character Recognition), which provides high reliability in container loading and unloading. Seven RTGs (rubber-tired gantry cranes) were also acquired. They will operate remotely, equipped with the same safety devices as the STS. As the two ordered reach stackers (vehicles with crane), used for container handling, they will be the first electric ones of this category in Brazil, as well as the two empty container forklifts. The purchase also includes an additional 16-ton forklift and 14 terminal tractors, all electric.
