Area in Santos set to host South America's largest terminal receives visit from delegation

The board of directors of the Agência Nacional de Transportes Aquaviários (Antaq) led a delegation that participated in a series of technical activities at the Port of Santos on Monday and Tuesday. The focus was the Container Terminal (Tecon) Santos 10 project, which is expected to be auctioned later this year.

The megaterminal, located at the Saboó quay, will be the largest in South America. The projected capacity is 3.5 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) per year, with four berths for vessel mooring. The estimated investment in the terminal is R\$ 5.6 billion under a 25-year contract, which may be extended.

The visit was a follow-up to Public Hearing No. 02/2025, held on March 18, which received 24 contributions aimed at improving the technical and legal documents for the bidding process regarding the lease of the new terminal.

As part of the agenda in Santos, a technical inspection by vessel was carried out along the Port of Santos, allowing for an on-site assessment of the port infrastructure in the Saboó region (STS10), on the Right Bank, where the implementation of Tecon Santos 10 is planned.

In addition to a meeting with the president of the Santos Port Authority (APS), Anderson Pomini, the delegation also met over the two days with representatives from port companies that handle container operations.

Antaq's board considered it essential to hear from the sector’s users in person and gain a deeper understanding of their demands and expectations. “We chose to begin this dialogue with the port users, who are key players in the local dynamics and will be directly impacted by the lease project. This is crucial to ensure that regulatory decisions are aligned with the reality of port operations”, emphasized Caio Farias, acting director-general of Antaq.

Also part of the delegation were Antaq directors Flavia Takafashi and Alber Vasconcelos; the Superintendent of Regulation, José Renato Fialho; the acting Special Secretary for Bids and Concessions, João Paulo Barbieri; the regional manager for Santos, Guilherme Silva; and the board advisor, Luiz Scarduelli. Representing the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) were the National Secretary for Ports, Alex Ávila, and the Director of the Department for New Grants and Regulatory Port Policies, Bruno Neri.
